Looks like a Wargames sequel is in the works.

Today in history – Alaska bought, Edison dies, Mason/Dixon line drawn
So many interesting events in history on this date – picking out just a few interesting is tough. So we’ll cover the purchase of Alaska, the death of Thomas Edison, and the drawing of the Mason/Dixon line. As always, information gathered from The History Channel’s Today in History section. Not Starring
I have no idea where I stumbled on the site Not Starring, but it’s a fun read. While looking over the site, I learned that Chuck Norris turned down the role of John Kreese (Cobra Kai Sensei). Of course, anyone who knows the awesomeness of Chuck Norris knows why he had to turn down the role – there is no way Mr. Miyagi could have ever beaten Kreese in the second movie if Chuck Norris played the role.

Hottie librarian or hag?
Bless Bill for letting the world know I’m not the only one who is into the geeky hot-chick look. Writing on his wife’s dislike of wearing glasses (and thinking she looks like a hag doing so), Bill notes:
I’m actually a big fan of the librarian hottie look, which is really what her glasses make her look like. She looks in the mirror, though, and sees something straight out of Macbeth.
And chuckles for the article ending line:
I hope she makes an easy, one-cauldron meal tonight.
Since I have no pics of Gloria, we’ll celebrate geeky hot-chick looks with an image of Lisa Loeb. I don’t know if Ms. Loeb is geeky, but she has the geeky hot-chick look so perfectly done that I just like looking at her. Mmmmmm, I love those glasses. So Eye Candy bonus post here.

Direct X 9.0L is Direct X 10 for WinXP?
Well, that’s the news I’m getting from The Inquirer. And I’ve found things there to be right so often that I pretty much take them as true.
WE MANAGED TO glean a few facts about the upcoming DirectX 9.0 L we told you about here.
DirectX 9.0 L is simply a renamed and refurbished DirectX 10 for Windows XP. It will make DirectX 10 games to work on Windows XP.
And games such as the upcoming Crysis won’t work on the existing DirectX 9.0 c. they need a DirectX 9.0 L
Slightly more to the article (but nothing that matters) if you care to head over and read it all.

Back home – sorry for no updates
Here is where I spend a few minutes rambling while pretending anyone who visits and reads this actually cares. I’ll return to my normal fluff and meaningless writing tomorrow when I have time to catch up. If you are visiting for the gaming/techie/political/humor posts I point you toward, you’ll want to skip forward. If you care about me personally, read on. Quick site update
Two things to post. First, a reader told me that the “more” tags weren’t making posts expand properly. I’ve put a new plug-in on the server for this, but haven’t fixed all the old posts yet. Look for the problem to go away in the next couple of days – I’ve tested this and it worked properly on the posts I updated.
The other note is I am heading out of town for 5 days. I will have limited access to the ‘net while travelling. I expect to make some site updates, but probably even less than what I’ve done lately. I have about 150 articles I’ve seen elsewhere or original stuff I’ve started working on that I want to get posted, but with my being so far behind, I’m not sure how quickly I’ll get caught up on all that nor how many of those I’ll drop due to limited time.
PS3 possibly delayed again in Europe
PlayStation 3 fans in Europe may have to wait even longer than expected before.
Top 10 women driving mistakes
I’d love to know the story behind pretty much any of the female driving errors pictured here.
Bush has air-travel troubles, too
Often, The Onion is a source of much suckage posing as humor. Today, though, I found a post that made me laugh. Continue reading “Bush has air-travel troubles, too”
Cringely on Internet gambling
Over at PBS, Robert Cringely has a very thoughtful article on the recently passed Internet gambling banning law. Naturally, Cringely makes sure to jump on the “It helps the terrorists!” bandwagon, which is a nice touch, I think. I’ve been reading his columns (for every ‘him’ that has made up Robert Cringely) for nearly 15 years, and it’s articles like this one that keep me reading.
Settle in there. This is a long read. Continue reading “Cringely on Internet gambling”
The best airport security quote yet
I’ve written about the confiscated rock at the airport already. You’ve probably even seen the article posted elsewhere on the great big, wild intarw3b. Now, check out Bruce Schneier’s brief post on the confiscated rock. At the end, you’ll get this, the greatest quote so far to come from the security theater that is airport “security” these days:
They already take away scissors. Can paper be far behind?
Additionally, as Bruce notes in closing his post:
We can’t keep weapons out of prisons. We can’t possibly keep them out of airports.
