Laptop 64 – Ben Heck strikes again

Commodore-64 portablized

Is there anyone else out there capable of pulling off the work Ben Heck does? Honestly, I’ve seen a few people do similar mods to portablize game consoles or vintage computers, but no one with the breadth of neat hacks that Ben has done. The latest bit from him is the rejiggering of â€œClassicâ€ computer the Commodore 64.

While I can’t say I personally would want one, this really is a pretty cool project for folks who have to get their retro on. (via MAKEZine)

Eye Candy voting

I haven’t posted a good eye candy picture in a while, so I feel a need to rectify that. However, I can’t quite decide which subject should make my next Eye Candy focus. I’ve just started watching the new Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles show, so I have Summer Glau on my mind (along with many admittedly unclean thoughts). But I also have been watching the revival of American Gladiators with my kids lately, and have to admit a bit of a crush on, ummmm, Crush (shown below out of gladiator gear).

Which eye candy subject next?

Celebrity geeks

Cracked.com routinely cranks out great articles, and their recent “8 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Geeks” is no exception. I first opened this up (courtesy digg) figuring it would just be of interest to me. But since the first celeb listed is the uber-sexay and even smarter Natalie Portman, I figured I could post here just so I could post an eye-candy pic of Ms. Portman.

When Golden Globe winner Natalie Portman was 10 years old, a representative of Revlon found her at a pizza parlor and asked her if she wanted to model. Portman turned her down and said that, all things considered, she would much rather act.

By the time she got her bachelor’s, she had studied four languages in addition to Hebrew, the language of her birth, had been published in professional science journals twice, killed an ass-load of aliens, and generally made us look like big human-shaped piles of poo. Seriously, when we were 10 years old, we wanted to be doctors or space cowboys or, at the very least, fire fighters. The closest we’ve gotten so far is one of those little shiny red fireman helmets.

I’ve been a fan of hers since watching LÃƒÂ©on (aka The Professional for us in the US – which, BTW, is when I became a fan of Jean Reno as well). And I’ve long know she was intelligent. But I had no idea just how brainy she was. Smart, way damn sexy, so, so, so very pretty, and she can deal an alien ass-kicking to make your eyes pop out. And have I mentioned she super hot?

Eye candy – …as a redhead

Over at some random site I found while searching for eye candy I could post on the site, I found this post showing a few Hollywoodies photochopped to redheads. Normally, I’d look and move on. However, I just had to post when I saw this before and after of Hayden Panettiere.

As you may or may not know, I have a special weakness for the redheads. And while she’s already such a fine-looking young lady, the redhead look just makes her even better. Sadly for me, I also found this buzz-killer picture of Ms. Panettiere.

And yes, smoking is absolutely a killer flaw to me. So she’s lost much of her appeal with just that one picture.

I have a thing for freaky looking chicks. And to me, that’s a term of deep admiration, not an insult. Lately, the freaky chick I’ve been paying attention to is Amy Lee from the band Evanescence. She’s very pretty, and into the goth freaky look.

Alba – No curves for me?

In a case of not knowing that I think she’s perfect, Ms. Alba has apparently said she wants to be taller and thinner. Now I love me the tall ladies for sure (who, for the record, I think is also mighty fine), but the thinner thing is right out, Jessica. Sadly, she did not consult me before expressing a desire to look different.

According to In Touch magazine, Jessica said:

I have curves, but I don’t really like them. I wish I was skinnier and taller.

No, no, dear – you’re perfect just the way you are. That is all.

Bless Bill for letting the world know I’m not the only one who is into the geeky hot-chick look. Writing on his wife’s dislike of wearing glasses (and thinking she looks like a hag doing so), Bill notes:

I’m actually a big fan of the librarian hottie look, which is really what her glasses make her look like. She looks in the mirror, though, and sees something straight out of Macbeth.

And chuckles for the article ending line:
