Nasty, egotistical jerks, at least in the chemistry field. There were a few great ones in the bunch, and they were inevitably the ones looked down upon by the others. Academia scares me. The PLoS is a great idea. I used to work for the American Chemical Society, and lemme tell you -- the scientific journal market is one of the biggest scams against universities and researchers around.
